Turtle Jelly

The other day my Uncle Hock throat was feeling not so good. So Mamarazzi told him to take some Guilinggao. Good for the throat.

Uncle Hock doesn't know what is Guilinggao and Mamarazzi being Banana Chinese, told him the direct translation of Guilinggao..."Turtle Jelly".

Guess what happen when he googled "turtle jelly" using Google Image.

One of the image from google search.

Poor guy. He had a scare. He thought Mamarazzi meant that.

What Mamarazzi actually mean was this. One box cost around RM3, have 10 sachets of Guilinggao.

Pour the powder into a bowl. Add cold water and kacau till smooth and not lumpy

Pour into boiling water. Keep stirring while it boil for awhile.

Mamarazzi decided to add some longan.

The syrup pour into the boiling Guilinggao while the longan put into small bowls

Bowls of Guillinggao ready to be put into the fridge and eaten later.

Chinese Medicine Hall, pasar / pasar mlm(from herbal man) or if you are at The Gardens/ 1Utama ..can get from the big Chinese Medicine shop there. If not mistaken, the name of the shop is "Effective Herbs"

smallkucing May 12, 2010 at 4:01 PM

STP

Like that you better not add longan. If ot mistaken longan will make the cough worse.

Home made much cheaper.

mNhL May 12, 2010 at 4:01 PM

Ooh I like to eat GLG. Didn't know such simple to make only. Must go buy some to try. If I'm heaty I normally either take the cincao or watermelon juice. Btw, will GLG be too cooling for the kids?

smallkucing May 12, 2010 at 8:37 PM

Chee Yee

I think wont be too cooling for kids gua. Just eat a bit only. Not like eat a few bowls. Some more these packets one, i think maybe dun even have "turtle" . Maybe they replace it with sine "leong" ingredients.

ChloeRuoyi May 12, 2010 at 9:20 PM

Haha! I think a more accurate translation should be "turtle cartilage jelly".

My mum always gets me this too, I think same brand. Really easy to make. I usually eat with honey :)
