Empress Orchid & The Last Empress by Anchee Min

Do you remember Mamarazzi's post on buying The Last Empress book from Bookalicious last month?

Quite some time ago, Mamarazzi bought the book Empress Orchid from BookXcess at RM14-90. Then the other days she saw part two of the book at Bookalicious. She grabbed it. Rather expensive at RM35-50, despite the buy 2 free 1 offer.

Mamarazzi love the book Empress Orchid very much. It tells the tale of Orchid, a girl who went to become the Empress of China. Her family become poor after the death of her father. She was being forced to marry her cousin. Her only escape and to help her family was to go into the Forbidden City to become the Emperor's Concubine.

Mamarazzi said those who were selected to enter the Forbidden City are very beautiful and have tiny feet which they call Lotus Feet. Not like my big foot.See! Nearly the same size as Mamarazzi's foot already.

Pity Orchid. She was bullied a lot. A lot of stress and tension living in the Forbidden City. But she was a tough cookie. She managed to attract the Emperor's affection and after a lot of ding dong, she become the Empress.

She was a target of envy and jealousy. Those who hated her portray her as the evil Dragon Lady.

At the ending she lost her husband and her lover to unavoidable circumstances.

In the second book, The Last Empress, Orchid was like this tub of Asam Pedas Fish. Though coloring is light but cukup pedas. Thank you, Mommy Yen.

A lot of politics scene. Everything she did, she was criticised. Even for things that was not her doing. Like there was no way out. But Orchid was tough. She managed the situation the best she can.

Mamarazzi didn't like this book as it made her feel depressed. Too much politics.

Hm....I wonder what book will Mamarazzi read next

Mamarazzi preferred Empress Orchid rather than The Last Empress. Coz too much politic. Pity the Empress. Kena boom-bang from every corner.
