Chicken Rice in Seri Kembangan

Seri Kembangan is another food heaven if you know how to find your way around the village. Along the main road of Seri Kembangan there are quite a number of very good chicken rice shop/restaurant.

Less than 200 metres from Public Bank, Jalan Kolej, next to an old folks home is Weng Seng Chicken Rice shop. Or better known by the people there as "Fei Low Kai Fan". Address : 259 Jalan Kolej, 43300 Seri Kembangan. Tel : 03-89489724.

There is nothing fancy about this shop. Just your semi concrete and wood "kampung" restaurant". However, the owner had installed air-conditioners at the back portion of the restaurant/shop.

The restaurant have a variety of chicken and pork. Looks yummy.

This small kucing ordered one of its famous dish, steamed "choy yin kai". Normally when you order chicken rice, they will give you some slices of fresh cucumber to go. This shop is special. They give pickled cucumber, which makes the meal more appetising.

The mother cat does not feel like eating rice. She ordered a bowl of mussel with ground nuts porridge. Well, this bowl of porridge definitely taste much better than the Petaling Street porridge.

Apart from that, the shop also offers a variety of soup.

Delicious coconut black chicken soup.

Black Chicken with ginseng root soup

Pork tail soup

Total damage for this meal for 3 person is less than RM40. A very reasonable price.

Famous Hon Kee Porridge

Saw in a television programme some time ago that there is a stall selling delicious porridge at Petaling Street. The stall name is Hon Kee Famous Porridge.
The other day decided to try it out. It was a shot day. This small kucing decided to "tapau" (take away) the porridge back to the comfy of home to eat.
Ordered one Chicken porridge and one mixed Pork porridge with the "spare parts"(intestine) to go. The service is very fast. In two minutes, I got two packets of porridge. Each packet is RM4 and if you want "Yau Char Kwai", it's cost you RM0-50 (small) packet and RM1(big) packet.

Was looking forward to eating the porridge. This is what the chicken porridge looks like. It was really disappointing. It was not at good as advertised. It's a bit too salty and not much ingredients. Only chicken meat with a sprinkle of spring onion. Don't have ginger, sesame oil nor peanuts.

The mixed pork porridge also has very small portion of pork. However, the friend intestine taste good and crunchy.

Overall, I feel that it's a rip-off at the price of RM4.

PAYLESSBOOKS WAREHOUSE SALE AT 3K

Yayay! It's Back! It's baCk! Paylessbooks sales it's back! I love their sales at 3K coz PLB normally bring a lot of books there.

Hopefully this round the section for "RM12 for 5" will have larger selection. Previous sale at The Weld, there was only 1 table of RM12 for 5.

No matter what, it's still fun to go. Apart from grabbing books, there are chance to meet up with fellow bookworms.

Pesta Buku Selangor 2007

Pesta Buku Selangor 2007 will be held at PKNS, Shah Alam starting from tomorrow. Well, I don't know where exactly is PKNS Shah Alam but I do know Paylessbooks will be joining the fair.
I wonder whether the fair will be a big scale fair or "kecil-mayung" type of fair. ....

Finish reading Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

Wow! finally completed reading THE book. This is really THE BOOK OF THE YEAR. Just like Siti Nurhaliza, wedding of the year...hehehe.

Been trying to read it real slow in order to enjoy the book to the very last word. All loose end were tidy-up quite nicely.

Rather sad to see that this is the final book. Hopefully Ms Rowling would consider writing another HP on the next generation of Hogwarts students?

My Two Cents on HP7 Price War

I feel bad when I first saw the news that Tesco and Carrefour are selling the book at RM69-90. Afterall, I pre-order the book from Kinokuniya at RM109-90 and after discount RM76-93.

Now I dont feel so bad anymore. Especially after I read that those hypermarket are actually selling the books at a loss. In fact, I feel ANGRY at those hypermarkets for stealling the bookshops thunder.

Those bookstore have been working very hard promoting Harry Potter & The Deathy Hallows for more than a year. They have invested a lot of monies on the advertisement and others stuffs. Then out of the blue, hypermarkets declare that they are selling at a lower price. Hypermarket don't even have to fork-out much for advertising as it has been done by the booksstores from them months earlier.

If by selling HP7 at RM69-90 is at a loss. Then I don't think the bookstores are earning much profit as I got mine for RM76-93. The most they earn is less than RM7-03 per book.

How can consumers expect bookstore whose core business is selling books to sell HP7 at loss to compete with the hypemarket price? What's the motive for hypermarket to sell it at a loss? Is it really so "kind hearted" as in to give the cheapest price to consumer in order to encourage more people to read? Or is it so that more people will visit the hypermarket and end up buying a lot of other ordinary priced stuffs while they are at the hyper market?

Some consumers complain that at Britain, HP7 goes as low as RM35. But bear in mind, the books are printed there. There are no high shipping cost, holding cost and etc involved as exporting the books to Malaysia.

Some people may think that I am stupid for defending the bookstores. Why buy at a higher price while you can get at a lower price? I think it's ethically wrong to under cut like that.

What's in the Bag?

What's in the yellow bag? Those who pre-order their copy of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallow will be given a Yellow paperbag.

This is what's in the bag.

A book and a Quill

For those who did not pre-order their copy of HP7, They are given the normal Kinokuniya plastic bag with a peacock feather inside.

It really puzzle this small kucing. Those who order pre-order their book get a small feather, possibly goose feather whilst those who buy on the spot get a BIGGER feather i.e. peacock feather??? Why do this small kucing feels that she is somehow being short changed???? You'll just have to see the comparison...BIG vs Small..hmmm.....

Launching of Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows at Kinokuniya

Yayay! It's day of launching for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallow. Unable to wake up early, so got to KLCC around 7.40am.

Aisey! Queue starts from 3rd floor and 5.30am. Hopefully, I'm not too late to join in the fun

Though the shop have been open for nearly an hour, the queue is still very very very long. Maybe it's because only the main entrance is open and it takes up time as people took some time to snap photo with the "Fat Lady". Nope! am not trying to be insulting coz there is really a character named "Fat Lady" in Harry Potter series.

It's a blessing in disguise that this small kucing arrived there late. Barely 5 minutes of queuing, Kinokuniya open the second door to the store for those who wanted to buy the books only.

Wow! people are grabbing the books off the shelves like there is no tomorrow. It's selling like hot cakes!

For those who have pre-order their copy, they do not have to queue up with the general population. Just go upstairs and collect their copy. And I must say. Those two ladies at the counter were very efficient in doing their job. One took our copy of order receipt and get ready the book with the goodies in an orange bag while the other collects the money

Paid the balance of the book price.

And get the book in an orange paper bag.

After all the Huh Hah of getting a copy of the book, the next exciting thing is to checkout "The Fat Lady". Not many people there since most people are in the shop browsing. Snapped some photos with The Fat Lady and she obligingly poses for us.

This is one of the funny poses. Get the password wrong and you'll be locked out of Kinokuniya..muhahahahaha.. Just joking just joking.

Temerloh Bandar Ikan Patin

Went by Temerloh the other day. The town is famous for its Ikan Patin fresh from the river. Maybe that's why there is a signboard proclaiming that "Temerloh Bandar Ikan Patin" as you enter the town.

Along the small winding road at the river bank, you will see signs hung on poles, nailed to the tree or outside small huts stating that Ikan Patin is available

We decided to stop at this small hut. Only two fella lofting around. We said we wanted to get some Ikan Patin. One of the shouted to someone at the river to bring up some fishes

Here is what it looks like behind the hut. A very steep river bank. There, they built cages for the fishes. From here, the "boss" will get the fishes as and when required by the customers.

They will bring the fishes to the small stall infront of the hut. Fishes are then put into an aquarium.

Customer can choose which one they want and have it clean by the man there or alternatively, they can bring the fish home alive.

Talapia is also sold there apart from Ikan Patin. Price is the same. Either type is RM12 per kilo.

What the...

This must be a very very very old truck. Why? Coz it had been more than two decades that Wilayah Persekutuan/Selangor telephone number contains more than 6 digits after the pre-fix "03".

Did I read wrongly or has vanity car plat arrived in Malaysia?

Durian Tart

Passby Karak the other day. A friend recommended this small kucing to try the Durian Tart at Restaurant Yik Kee in view that this small kucing is mad about durian. Maybe with an exception of Dodol. Don't like Dodol at all.

The shop is located directly opposite of the town's only KFC outlet.

Bought half a dozen of the Durian Tarts at RM1.30 per piece.

The tart sort of got "distorted" on the way home as the texture is a bit too soft. Too many things in the car. Strong durian smell from the tart.

Apart from Durian Tart they also have Portugis Tart, "Siew Pau", Durian Bomb(I wonder what is that), Sak Kei Mah and others.

Don't look down on this ancient shop. It seems that their business is quite good. How do I know that? It's in their receipt. They collect the 5% Government Tax. Only business with Revenue above a certain amount is liable to collect Government Tax of 5%, right?
