Mamarazzi was supposed to be resting. But then sleep seems to be an elusive thing when the mind was thinking a lot of nonsense. Hence, daily Bookathon. An escape path. Average consumed a book a day. Here are some of the books in the Bookathon.
Twenties Girls - Sophie Kinsella - bought from BookXcess at RM19-90.
About Lara, a girl whose boyfriend just broke off with her and she was obsessed in getting him back. Her best pal who is her business partner left Lara stranded to handle the business on her own while she went "joli". And to top it off, she was being "haunted" by her Great Aunt Sadie ghost. The aunt which she didn't recall meeting till the day of the funeral.
The Ghost, Sadie, wants Lara to help her find her missing necklace.
In the course of the "treasure hunting", Lara discovered how to live life.
Really a very easy read and fun too.
Paths of Glory by Jeffrey Archer bought from BookXcess at RM24-90(Hardcover)
You like mountain climbing? Then this is the book for you. It's a fiction about a man that have big dreams. Dreams that would guarantee him a place in the history if he achieved them. Who is he? George Mallory. He have been fascinated on climbing since he knows how to walk.
His ultimate goal is Mount Everest. Story set at a time where Mount Everest has yet to be conquered.
But by the time he was ready to climb Mount Everest, he has a wife and a daughter. 1st attempt failed. Nevertheless it was the highest which man managed to reach at the time. He was hailed as a hero.
His wife was reluctant to let him go for 2nd attempt and he was reluctant to go to as he saw his Sherpa die because of his ambition.
In the end he was persuaded to go and he had said that he would put/bury his wife's photo at the Peak of the World.
He never came back. But many years later they found his body not far from the Peak. Some say he didn't reach the top, some say he is the 1st man that conquer Mount Everest. But what is missing from his body is his wife's photo and his camera.
Average read. Some detail can be rather boring.
The Missing Case of The Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall bought from BookXcess at RM19-90
WOW! This is the first time Mamarazzi read mystery story based in India. The "hero" is Vish Puri, a plumb and cute "Most Private Investigator".
His cases are mostly screening of prospective marriage partners but then one day he was presented with a difficult case.
A honest public litigator, Ajay Kasliwal, was accused of murdering his servant girl. The girl is known as Mary and she disappear from the house without anyone knowing where she went. Ajay was charge of murdering the girl as a unrecognisable body was found.
Meantime, someone tried to kill Vish Puri by shooting him while he was watering his chili plant on the balcony of his home. That is when his Mummyji stepped and "help" to investigate who is trying to kill her darling boy.
Overall this is a very fun book to read. A lot of laughs and thrill. Guess Mamarazzi would be looking for more books from this author.
Shanghai Girls by Lisa See bought from Bookalicious
Set in circa 1937, about these two modern Shanghai girls, Pearl and May Chin. They came from a well to do family. But due to their father's gambling habit, he lost everything.
He had to sell his daughters for marriage to two brothers from "Gold Mountain".
The girls married the brothers though they already have their own boyfriends. They were supposed to follow their husband to "Gold Mountain" but they rebelled at the very last moment.
The the Japanese came. It was very hard time for them. They lost their parents in the process. Not only that. They also lost themselves.
They had to go and join their husband in Gold Mountain. But too bad life is not a bed of roses.
A sad tale. They lost so much in the process. Good read.

You know why I love Mamarazzi's books?

I can't read but they are big enough to be obstacles course for my toy cars. Up and down they went!

Have not been to this restaurant for more than 6 months. The last time we were here was November last year. Nothing much changed.
Used to makan at this restaurant nearly every week when Mamarazzi was pregnant with me.

We ordered Claypot Taufu. Taste not bad. Quite a lor of "liu"

Alamak! Mamarazzi "ter-order" their Lotus root soup again ah?
This round the soup taste way too salty for our taste. But this is our personal opinion only la. To others it maybe the perfect soup.

Some green Kangkung for "kambing" . The kangkung was young and sweet. Crunchy.

The waitress kept "marketing" for this dish. Said it's Claypot Chicken. Thus we decided to order a small pot. Result is herbal Chicken. Taste boleh tahan la. Portion quite big. They have half a chicken.
Total bill for 3 adults and 1 kid RM58-60 inclusive of drinks.

Eee this is a very sad story. Have to prepare tissue paper.
There was once a very rich man, Simon, who invited Jesus for dinner at his house. But he was a proud man. He thought Jesus is just a simple preacher and didn't want to make a big fuss on Jesus.
thus when Jesus came to his house, Simon didn't bother to send a servant out to greet him with a jug of water to wash his feet. Sending servant to greet a guest with a jug of water to wash their feet was the custom of the country.
Jesus saw this but he kept quiet. He took his place in the dinner table and talk as usual.
A woman saw the snub. Her name was Mary of Magdalene. She was consider a bad woman in that country as she did many bad things. She thinks herself not worthy to see Jesus's face
Mary was sad when she saw Simon treatment towards Jesus. She thus went to a shop in town and bought ajar of their most expensive sweet smelling ointment
She slipped into the house and kissed Jesus feet. She can;t help herself and wept. She used her hair to wipe his feet and she pour not a little bit but the whole jar of sweet smelling ointment on Jesus feet.
Simon was shocked to see the bad woman in his house and that Jesus had allowed Mary to touch his feet.
Jesus saw what Simon was thinking. Hence he spoke and I quoted from Enid Blyton book
"Do you see this woman, Simon? I came into your house, and you give me no water for my feet; but she has washed my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. You give me no kiss; but this woman has not stopped kissing my feet since she came in. You did not anoint my head with oil, but this woman has poured oil on my feet."
oh...that was very moving..*sobs*sobs*
And then Jesus spoke kindly to Mary and told her her sins have been forgiven. Since then, Mary followed Jesus around and help him as much as she can.

Do you remember Mamarazzi's post on buying The Last Empress book from Bookalicious last month?
Quite some time ago, Mamarazzi bought the book Empress Orchid from BookXcess at RM14-90. Then the other days she saw part two of the book at Bookalicious. She grabbed it. Rather expensive at RM35-50, despite the buy 2 free 1 offer.
Mamarazzi love the book Empress Orchid very much. It tells the tale of Orchid, a girl who went to become the Empress of China. Her family become poor after the death of her father. She was being forced to marry her cousin. Her only escape and to help her family was to go into the Forbidden City to become the Emperor's Concubine.
Mamarazzi said those who were selected to enter the Forbidden City are very beautiful and have tiny feet which they call Lotus Feet. Not like my big foot.See! Nearly the same size as Mamarazzi's foot already.
Pity Orchid. She was bullied a lot. A lot of stress and tension living in the Forbidden City. But she was a tough cookie. She managed to attract the Emperor's affection and after a lot of ding dong, she become the Empress.
She was a target of envy and jealousy. Those who hated her portray her as the evil Dragon Lady.
At the ending she lost her husband and her lover to unavoidable circumstances.

In the second book, The Last Empress, Orchid was like this tub of Asam Pedas Fish. Though coloring is light but cukup pedas. Thank you, Mommy Yen.
A lot of politics scene. Everything she did, she was criticised. Even for things that was not her doing. Like there was no way out. But Orchid was tough. She managed the situation the best she can.
Mamarazzi didn't like this book as it made her feel depressed. Too much politics.
Hm....I wonder what book will Mamarazzi read next

Hmmm...what's that smell? So nice geh.

Ohh...Mamarazzi is preparing the
instant noodle from Taiwan that Auntie Siew gave the other time.

Wow...really impressively. The instant noodle have pieces of lamb meat. No wonder Auntie siew said the people that were in the same tour group with her were grabbing to buy this instant noodle. Taste very good. A bit oily but if don't add the oil, it would be perfect.
I wonder if we have it here in Malaysia or not.
